Seldom does an opportunity like this become available for a respected, professional corporate communications professional, as the Victoria Police Department is establishing the new position of Director, Public Affairs and requires an individual with unequivocal integrity and impeccable credentials as well as a sincere sense of community service. With over 240 sworn members and more than 100 civilian staff, the VicPD is acknowledged for its commitment to serving and protecting its citizens as well as creating groundbreaking policing initiatives for the safety and security of a capital city. This is not a role for everyone. It is a demanding, innovative and creative position with a sense of urgency as the selected candidate will work with one of Canada’s leading municipal police services. This is a civilian position reporting directly to the Chief Constable. Not only will the ideal candidate bring unimpeachable professional credentials, the selected individual will also bring a personal background that is above reproach. Dealing with emerging and highly sensitive issues, the Director will provide high level communications counsel to the Senior Management Team, strategic planning around a variety of branding activities, will develop and implement media and community relations initiatives as well as expand stakeholder relations. Your sharp focus will be on the dynamic, fast-paced delivery of critical messages with diverse stakeholders and external audiences. You are a natural when it comes to developing key messages to a broad range of audiences within and outside an organization on both strategic and operational levels. Creative, detail-oriented and strategically minded, with an acute understanding of various business and media writing styles, you have an innate ability to approach sensitive issues plus create and manage communication strategies. Your demonstrated leadership qualities are complemented by strategic planning acumen, a hands-on approach, and proven consultative and interpersonal competencies. It is imperative that your writing and editing skills are superb. In addition to management proficiency, this position requires a unique combination of expertise with media and public relations as well as community and public affairs.
